Hellloooo Summer - Goodbye Kindergarten!

These pictures came up really randomly. I decided I like it that way though. (or I decided I'm too lazy to change it, I'll let you choose which version to believe)
We had a Welcome Summer ice cream party for all the kiddo's in the 'hood. It was a surprise for all of them, and they had a blast! Ice cream and a slip and slide! What's not to love?
Z brought jars filled with gumballs for her teachers on the last day. The tag said "Thanks for "chewsing" to teach Kindergarten. It would NOT have been such a blast with out you. Z had a "ball"! (We also chipped in with the rest of the class for gift cards, just in case you though I was el cheapo and just got them gum!) I also decorated a lunch bag for her last day. It said "Z's last lunch of Kindergarten. Ever!" She thought it was awesome! I thought it was a good enough excuse to use some of the $1,000's of dollars worth of scrapbook "stuff" that collects dust in my closet.
When she got home she saw the party and the banner we made for her to crash through (all the other Kindergartners crashed with her) like at the end of the race. We were the coolest parents in the universe for like 10 whole seconds!! Now of course she's a big 1st grader and we totally suck. Oh well, we had our 10 seconds.
So now we are barbecuing every night, sitting on the porch, sleeping in, scratching mosquito bites, going to the pool, picking fruit, cranking up the AC, and scratching the mosquito bites some more. It's lovely!
I'll be sick of it in like two more weeks.

So there's my random Disney pictures for today. Bill got to do Veteran of the day, and these obviously are pictures of that. He was proud to get to do it, but mostly he was excited for his mom. She was over the moon with pride and has been bragging to the rest of the family ever since.
We are gearing up for the last day of school. (whew...no more waking up to pack a lunch) Z had field day last week and I got to volunteer, we had a blast! Next week is her class picnic and on the last day of school we are hosting a little neighborhood party to welcome summer. Anyone who knows me knows I love planning a party, so I'm a happy camper at the moment. We are going to have a slip and slide, bubbles, water balloons, and of course Ice cream sunday's and snow cones. One of our local restaurants serves "grown up" snow cones made with alcohol and while we obviously won't be serving those, I think it's the coolest idea.
We are so proud of Z. She has done a great job in kindergarten. Her teacher says she is at a third grade level on many subjects, and most importantly that she is friendly, caring and curious! Z does not want school to end, she loves it! She is especially bummed to leave her beloved teacher and the class pet (a rat..ewww!) Oreo. She only takes fruits or veggies for snack ever since Oreo joined the classroom so that she could "share" with him.(I think this makes her teacher a secret genious and personally I think someone should nominate her for a nobel prize) I have to tell her on a regular basis "no we are under no circumstances getting a rat. Ever. Ever." It doesn't help that one of her good friends has a Neuro scientist for a dad, and they have at least one rat in residence at all times (although theirs only last a few weeks at a time...I'm not sure what that says about his scientist skills.)
We are excited about having Tara and Amy's crews up for the 4th!!! Now to just narrow down all the cool things to do! I think one of the things I miss about Astoria is that there were not sooo many choices (that's wierd huh?). There is so much going on here it's a chore trying to decide which way to go with.
Speaking of that. Amy and Tara you have to decide what we should do. There is Amys Cheeseburger in Paradise with the cool drinks (but we have to drive), all the cool restaurants and trendy stores downtown, like the Sly Fox (walking distance) or the posh stores and restaurants in the Town Center. (PF changs, Brio, Metro Silver Diner, The Chop House, Gordon Biersch...Whole Foods) The town center also has Anthropologie (OMG I want ever single thing in that store) Sur La Table, Multi Level Target, Grand gatherings...and a bunch of other stores that make me drool and my husband tremble in fear. So where do we go for girls night??? I'm thinking a quick field trip to Whole foods (and surrounding stores) and then food and drinks (and more stores) downtown, because we don't need to worry about driving home, but those drinks at the Cheeseburger place do look cool....hmm...see? It's a chore! If this were Astoria it would be a snap! There is also high tea at Reynolds Tavern. With those adorable three tiered thingys laden with yummyness!!! Ack! What to do???
